What is the best business online compared to the worst?

What is Business?

According to  Merriam-Websters definition, business is: A commercial or mercantile activity engaged in as a means of livelihood. And what is the meaning of “Best”? Again Merriam-Webster to the rescue: Excelling all others.

So, in short, A commercial enterprise excelling all others.

Affiliate Marketing

The essence of this business is to compound the selling power of particular brands on the internet implementing various forms of promotion. In short, you receive a commission for helping others in their endeavours. How rewarding is that?

Teamwork

The commissions range from $1.00 to $10,000 depending on what product or service you’re promoting. Here’s how it works: You find a particular programme you want to be affiliated with, join with them, receive a unique affiliate link and then share this information with anyone who could benefit from said product or service, “simple”!

Setting up Your Platform

There are multiple sources you could learn from to set up your business online. The hard part is to sort the wheat from the chaff. So it’s fortunate for you. I’ve done a lot of the leg work, saving you time and money. Here’s a link to my favourite mentor, so click on it and discover how to expedite your journey to success. Or go here to find out more.

How is it better?

The great thing about affiliate marketing is the initial start-up capital is exceptionally manageable for the smallest of budgets. And, when you become more established, you can inject more capital into your business to scale it out. The downside of low start-up costs are :

  • The barriers to entry are low, which in turn creates more competition
  • Higher failure rates due to unrealistic expectations
  • Saturation of particular markets (I’ll show you how to avoid these hurdles)
  • You have to abide by the rules of affiliate marketing programs, (could cost you if you don’t)

The upsides are bountiful:time and money

  • Billion dollar business (and growing year by year)
  • No expertise needed (practice makes perfect)
  • A secondary source of income (you don’t have to give up your primary job until you become well established)
  • Convenience  and flexibility (create multiple campaigns)
  • Passive income (earn while you sleep)
  • Independence (Up to you how far you go)

Most small businesses have a risk management system that is non-existent, which is one of the reasons the majority fail. (They run out of money). With affiliate marketing, the most common reason people fail is simple, they have poor mentors, and eventually, give up due to a lack of proper training. Again have a look at this opportunity and give it a trial run (no money down).

Do you want to know one of the other barriers to success in online affiliate marketing?

The Need To Control

Yep, most people want to “know” the outcome of something before they take action. And if you think about it, that applies to most any endeavour you undertake, (I think we learn this stuff when young)

Fear

Get up and speak in front of 5000 people, oh no, what will they believe, will I be good enough etc. It happens in business when you set up a website and put it out there. Rather than do it and learn from the comments, we tend to want it to be “perfect”. We tend to need to control the outcome, which is quite impossible and can cause a lot of stress. For example, I have just deleted two pages from this site, that I wrote over four months ago (cause looking back I think they’re shite). The point being, I had to look back. And they didn’t seem shite at the time. It’s how we learn and make progress.

So, point being, take a leaf out of a specific sports brand “just do it“, and then ponder the outcome, not the other way round. Of course, in saying that, never forget to have a plan and a strategy that will take you forward to your destination.

Don’t Reinvent the Wheel

There are systems in place that work as long as you follow the steps (formula) provided. And I can show you how to develop a step by step process that (if supported) will guarantee your success. And I bet you’re thinking yeah right!. Which, in turn, leads me to ask you to re-read the paragraph above, and realise the patterns of your behaviour that have influenced you all your life “so far”. And it’s up to you if you want a different outcome.

perfect

The steps are:

  1. How are you going to make money online (in this case it’s affiliate marketing)
  2. Choose a niche (we can go more into this later)
  3. Setting up a niche website
  4. Getting your site ready for Search Engines.
  5. Creating your initial website content
  6. Creating custom menus on your website
  7. Understanding keywords, the start of your content.

All these steps are crucial to your success going forward in the affiliate marketing world. The website will be the hub for all your interactions involving products and services that will benefit your visitors. And that is the key. The site and all its content (including affiliate links) have to be relevant.

Now on to The Worst Businesses Online (IMO ; )

Here’s a list of some of the worst ideas for business online:

  • Blackmail ( a website to blackmail your friends)
  • My funeral (site to choose the DJ for your funeral)
  • Ghost hunter app ( To detect paranormal presence around you)
  • Digital eco recycle bin? ( yep, to help the environment) eek!
  • Condom keychains (exactly what it says on the tin)

Now here’s the twist. I said they’re the worst only because they bombed. But you’ve got to take your hat off to the vendors for giving it a try. There hasn’t been a lot of research on the ideas to determine if the market is ready, so it’s a bit of a punt. And of course, to manage your risk is paramount in jumping off a cliff (make sure you have a working parachute). Reminds me of an old joke: “you don’t need a parachute to skydive, but you’ll only do it once.

So, the worst business ideas compared to the best are determined by their success in real time. Those ideas above might take off in years to come, who knows. But for now (and this is the realm in which we live) they stink.

Affiliate Marketing is King King

The great thing about affiliate marketing is it’s up to you, who you want to be affiliated with. If it’s a product or service that has no relevance to your site or doesn’t help your visitors, then don’t get involved. A concept totally within your control.

There you go, a short but concise synopsis of how the best business online works (and it does). If you have any questions, leave a comment, and I’ll get back with a proper response.

  1. Hi Dedo,

Great post. I’m glad you write about affiliate marketing because I just started my own online business. I’ve been getting a few traffic but haven’t made many sales. I ain’t giving up yet.

Your post is quite informative. I agree with you, you get more experienced as you continue in the journey. When you talked about a page that you deleted, I remember my first post which I now think would be a disgrace to my site. Thank you for that. I’m going to go through it as soon as possible. I may either update or delete it.

Hope many people with no experience at all but are willing to do whatever it takes to earn a living with just their laptop will read this.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Firstly, I commend you for doing this comparison between the best business online and the worst. To get started, affiliate marketing is truly king when it comes to making money online only if one is ready to learn and put the knowledge into constant practice. As you mentioned, its a process and one should never try to be a master right from the start. It doesn’t always work like that. Success comes from the freedom to fail. Another thing is the fact that affiliate marketing requires limited startup capital to which most of the other businesses required. And it also offers various formulas that will guide one on the path to success. Thanks for this post

    • Hi Darrick,

I’m so glad you appreciate the points I was making in my post, especially the process of learning that is paramount in any worthwhile endeavour.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the money aspect is really a scorecard for us to evaluate the true value we’re providing, (or not).

      Again, thanks for stopping by.
